Welcome to the Odd Salon!

Hello! I’m Annie Stephens, an interior designer based in Brooklyn, NY. I frequently get asked questions related to interior design and I love talking about them. I figured why not share my answers and advice on Substack. I’ll share bi-weekly newsletter that will cover an umbrella of design topics, including (but not limited to): interior design (art, furniture, wallpaper, etc.), travel, hosting (parties, holidays, etc.), recipes, and other design related thoughts. We can discuss this salon style in the chat or in real life.

About Me

I’ve been creating art and unique designs of all mediums my whole life. I also have always enjoyed hosting people and bringing to life unexpected ideas. For example, I threw a party for my rock collection at age seven. I went to college for Architecture at UVA where I also studied design thinking and did projects like 3D printed ergonomic shoes inspired by gothic cathedrals. After college, I worked in Federal Consulting at Accenture for a few years trying to bring creativity and beautiful data design to the government, but realized I had to follow my passions and switched to interior design. I’ve been working at Chango, a high end residential interior design company in New York, for a few years now as a Project Manager.

Bringing in flowers for a workshop I held!

I love hosting unexpected themed parties and neighborhood ghost tours. I also get really into dressing up and costumes. I’ll share more info on this in the newsletters!

My outfit for Pattern Party

I must confess that I hate writing and so I do have the assistance of a ghost writer. It won’t be hard to forget her name because her name is also Annie (B.) Stephens. My sister-in-law will take on the bulk of writing (“Hi this is me writing” - Annie B. Stephens), but the ideas are mine.

About Annie Amsler Design

I started a jewelry company in middle school called Annie Amsler Jewelry when my mom refused to buy me the expensive jewelry I wanted, so I decided to make it myself. I found a hole in the market for inexpensive, unique jewelry and set out to fill that hole. I started taking on other design commissions and projects, so I changed the name to Annie Amsler Design.
